TAWAU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained nine contractors here on suspicion of falsifying bank statements in order to receive canteen management quotations worth more than RM200,000.
It is understood that all the contractors concerned, who submitted the statements to a government office in Semporna, were arrested at 10am at the MACC office here.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk S Karunanithy said the case is being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code.
He said all the suspects would be charged in the Tawau Special Corruption Court soon. He added that the Keningau MACC Office also arrested two contractors, aged 25 and 32, for a similar offence involving a contract worth RM5 million on Friday.
According to him, the duo - a man and a woman - were arrested for allegedly submitting forged bank statements in order to acquire bids for food supply services for primary and secondary boarding schools.
He warned all contractors against submitting fake paper works, which is a criminal violation, to avoid facing stern action.
